ANZAC day

ANZAC Day is linked to the landing of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers at Gallipoli in Turkey in 1915.  It was first celebrated in 1916 with memorial services and in the the early 1920s became a national holiday in Australia and New Zealand.

Tomorrow is ANZAC day and many people will be attending Dawn Parades and memorial services all over NZ and in other places in the world.  In Room 26 we made Poppies for our classroom wall display as an introduction to our Unit Study on ANZAC day.

Did You Know? The red poppy is a symbol of war remembrance.  People wear the poppy to remember those who died in war or who still serve.  The red poppies are also a symbol of the poppies that grew on Flanders Field, a battlefield in France during World War I.

An instructional video on how to make these awesome poppies will be posted soon!

The CHALLENGE

The time limit for 1 suicide/shuttle is all students to get back over the line within 30sec.  SO Tommy decided he wanted to find out how fast he could do it, and then we were all pretty interested to find out who was the fastest in our class.

Can you beat it? post a video on your class blog and leave a link below to show us!

CLASS CONSEQUENCES

At the beginning of the year, we co-constructed a Class Treaty and explored possible options for what type of consequences students would have for not respecting and following the treaty.

Traditional consequences such as keeping the whole class in at lunch, or writing lines didn't really appeal to us, with majority agreeing that fitness was a consequence that students would benefit from , even if it was a 'punishment'.

We do burpees, press-ups, sit-ups, bridges/planks, suicides/shuttles, laps around the field, starjumps and more recently running up and down stairs...
